Pontiac Land to Launch 53W53 in Hong Kong: “The Most Architecturally Significant Addition to the New York Skyline in Recent Years”
A 1,050-foot-high residential condominium tower adjacent to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) at 53 West 53rd Street
53W53, the 1,050-foot-high condominium tower adjacent to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) at 53 West 53rd Street, Midtown Manhattan, New York will hold a media preview in Hong Kong on 23rd May 2016, followed by its official Asia launch – a sales gallery showcase from 27th - 29th May at the Taishan Room, Level 5, Island Shangri-La, Pacific Place (11.00am to 7.00pm). At the launch, prospective buyers will able to experience simulated views from individual apartment units, using a state-of-the-art computer system.
The sweeping 82-storey, 750,000-square-foot tower, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, will house 145 luxury condominium residences, as well as a 36,000-squarefoot expansion of MoMA’s galleries on the museum’s second, fourth and fifth floors. 53W53 is jointly developed by Pontiac Land Group of Singapore, a privately-held luxury property developer; Hines, an international real estate firm; and the Goldman Sachs Real Estate Principal Investment Area.
Mr. Nouvel has created a sculptural, exposed structural system for the building, known as the diagrid, complementing the building’s angular, tapering shape – a form derived by using zoning requirements to their most exciting advantage. As a result of this design, each of the building’s 145 residential units – ranging from one-bedroom to full-floor residences to duplex penthouses with private elevators boasts a unique layout. Triple-glazed, floor-to-ceiling windows minimize exterior noise and temperature variations; and horizontal and vertical soundproofing provides acoustic privacy.
53W53 has the unique distinction of being integrated into The Museum of Modern Art’s architecturally distinguished urban campus. Three new gallery levels will be created within the base of 53W53, each accessed from and connected with the museum’s existing exhibition spaces. Residents will receive deeded memberships at MoMA with benefits that include the potential for the building to host private events in the museum’s iconic Sculpture Garden.
53W53 interiors are designed by New York-based Architect Thierry Despont who has created the building’s 24-hour staffed lobby in a palette of cerused oak, marble, alabaster, bronze and gold leaf, as an interpretation of Mr. Nouvel’s bold architecture. The building’s entrances on both 53rd and 54th Streets will be attended by 24-hour doormen, offering discrete, convenient and secure access to and from the building.
“I approached the design of 53W53 as if each residence was a private home commission,” explained Mr. Despont. A celebration of quality and attention to detail, each residence features elegantly crafted, furniture-grade mahogany doors throughout, complemented by the architect’s custom-designed bronze hardware inspired by the tower’s distinctive silhouette.
Impeccably curated amenities, staff and services elevate the living experience at 53W53. The windowed, 15,000 sq ft Wellness Center operated by The Wright Fit will include a 65-foot lap pool, cold-plunge pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam rooms and a massage treatment room, as well as elaborate poolside vertical gardens designed by noted French botanist Patrick Blanc, a fitness center, squash court, and programmable golf simulator. Floors 46 and 47 feature a double-height lounge and a private formal dining room, both with sweeping views overlooking Central Park.
Residents will also enjoy full-time concierge services and in-home private-dining services from the in-building restaurant. Other amenities include a library, a double-height Oenology suite for wine tasting, temperature-controlled wine storage vaults available for purchase, a private screening room, children’s playroom and private storage available for purchase.
